Branded Shirts versus Non-Branded Shirts: How to Spot the Difference

by Muneeb Khan on Apr 20, 2023
When it comes to buying new branded shirts in Pakistan, there are endless options to choose from. However, one of the main decisions is whether to invest in a branded or non-branded shirt. Branded shirts are often seen as the superior option due to their specific features. Let’s explore the differences between branded shirts versus non-branded shirts and learn a few tips on how to identify them easily when worn.

Fabric Of Superior Quality

One of the main differences between branded shirts and non-branded shirts is the quality of the fabric used. Branded formal shirts tend to use higher fabric counts of 80 to 120, which are thinner, lighter, and have a better sheen. These fabrics are nearly always yarn dyed, giving them a silky feel and a premium look. Branded men's formal shirts often use cottons such as Egyptian cotton, sea island cotton, Pima cotton, and Supima cotton, which are easily recognizable by the naked eye. Branded dress shirts for men have a crispness around them, a sheen, and a sense of sophistication that non-branded shirts simply cannot match.

Colour-Quality Connection

Another way to identify a branded shirt is through its colour. Branded shirts tend to use fusing or interlay suitable to the thickness of the fabric, which results in higher quality and more distinguished colours. For example, if a branded shirt has a 140 count, the interlay will be thinner, resulting in a lighter feel around the collar. Companies manufacturing branded office shirts for men use a slightly thicker interlay or fusing, usually branded, to ensure that the shirt never bubbles, frays or loses its shape.

Quality Elevation by Stitching

Luxury or premium shirts will always use a higher stitch per inch, starting at 18 stitches to 22, which makes the stitching feel seamless. The stitching is done with very thin thread, usually the thinnest 100% cotton thread available, making it nearly invisible on the shirt. Non-branded shirts tend to have anywhere between 11 and 14 stitches per inch, and the stitching is often done with thicker thread. The stitching quality of branded shirts is so high that it feels like someone has drawn a very thin line ruler. Chester Bernard is a prominent name among the few companies that are producing such quality formal shirts in Pakistan.

The Perfect Fitting Shirt

Tailored shirts with a brand label are crafted to fit flawlessly and accurately, rendering them easily identifiable when donned. The silhouette of a branded shirt is distinctly structured and well-defined, whereas unbranded shirts are generally more shapeless, imparting a casual impression. Branded shirts have a bespoke feel as if cut and sewn specifically for the wearer, while non-branded shirts may appear unfinished and lack refinement.

Wear and Tear Resistance

Shirts bearing a brand name endure longer compared to unbranded ones due to the use of high-grade raw materials. Typically crafted from premium cotton such as Egyptian cotton, these shirts are sturdier and more resilient to abrasion and damage. As a result, branded shirts retain their luster, quality, and hues for extended durations, which validates their value. Although branded shirts may require a heftier initial expense, they often offer a more advantageous proposition over the long haul by lasting longer and maintaining a better appearance.

How to Distinguish Branded Shirts from Non-Branded Ones?

It is quite simple to identify branded and non-branded shirts. One just needs to observe their prints and patterns. Companies making dress shirts in Pakistan often use sophisticated designs such as fancy stripes, herringbones, bird's eye, twills, and mother-of-pearl twills. They also use complex Jaccard weaves that are not achievable by non-branded companies due to the high costs involved. Using these simple tips you can easily differentiate between branded shirts for men and the ones that are not coming from any authentic brand name.
